Session #1: Harness & Apparatus Function & Setup

Saturday 9:30am-12:30pm

Who can participate?

This session is appropriate for all handlers, regardless of experience level. Dogs will not attend this session. There are numerous large kennels at the facility that you may use, so you do not need to bring a crate for your dog.

Overview

In this session, we will explain how a harness works and what correct harness fit looks like. We will show you different types of harnesses and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each. We will also discuss how your draft apparatus works with your harness, and how to make sure your configuration is good. We will show you how to identify and remedy common setup problems, and will discuss the order you should use to configure your setup, so that you don’t get stuck in an infinite loop of adjusting and readjusting. We will also talk about what the well-appointed drafting toolkit looks like, so that you aren’t caught unprepared if something goes wrong while you’re drafting.

What to Bring

Your harness and draft apparatus (cart, wagon, travois), if you have them. Most participants find it helpful to bring a notebook for writing down information they want to remember later.

Fee: FREE
