North Central Newfoundland Club

NCNC POLICIES & PROCEDURES

The NCNC has established the following Policies & Procedures, in addition to our Bylaws, to help the club run smoothly and to create a sense of transparency regarding club processes.

Please be patient as we are locating old policies, reviewing and updating them, and uploading them here.

Expedited Approval of NCNC Events

Typically, NCNC Events must be approved by a full vote of the Board of Directors. Sometimes, however, this process may be expedited in the following ways:

  1. NCNC Board members may create and host new events with a total NCNC spend of $75 or less, without a vote of the full Board of Directors, if they provide written notice to the board in advance and no Board members object or request further discussion during a Board Meeting, within 5 days of receiving said request.
  2. Requests to host events are encouraged and welcomed from NCNC members at large. Members should submit a request to host an event to the NCNC Board of Directors, including a budget, to info@northcentralnewfs.org. If the event is approved, it will be assigned a Board member sponsor, and the host member will work with this sponsor to ensure that NCNC objectives and event guidelines are upheld throughout all stages of the event and its planning.

Adopted 3/25/24 by NCNC BoD. Effective 3/25/24.

NCNC Event Safety Rules

The NCNC shall, at its discretion, publicize events that are not run by the NCNC if they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Dogs must be crated or leashed and collared at all times, except at working, performance or conformation activities when the dogs are required to perform off leash for training purposes.
  2. If dogs are leashed, the length of the leash must not exceed SIX (6) feet and the leash may NOT be a retractable leash.
  3. When on leash, dogs must be under control at all times. Do not let your dog approach another dog without permission from the other dog’s owner.
  4. Any dog that, in the opinion of the event chair and designated Event Liaison representing the Board of Directors, appears potentially dangerous, shall be asked to leave the event promptly or be crated for the duration of the event. Anyone who witnesses a dog appearing to be potentially dangerous should bring their concerns to the event chair.
  5. You are responsible for monitoring the well-being and safety of your dog(s). Check on them frequently.
  6. Parents are responsible for supervising their children’s behavior. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
  7. Clean up after your dog(s).
Adopted 9/17/23 by NCNC BoD. Effective 10/1/23. Revised 10/15/23.

NCNC Grievance Policy on Potentially Harmful Dogs

This policy will apply at all NCNC Events that are not also NCA Events. At NCA Events, the NCA's Out of Control Dog Policy will apply instead.

Anyone who witnesses a dog appearing potentially harmful at an NCNC event should bring their concerns to the Event Chair. Part of upholding good sportsmanship is to take action through the appropriate channels, not through participating in gossip, in person or on social media, about an incident. If you are a witness to an incident of misconduct at an NCNC event, speak directly with the Event Chair.

The Event Chair shall ask any dog who they believe may cause harm to humans or other dogs to leave the event promptly or be crated for the duration of the event. If the Event Chair expels any dog, the Event Chair must file a report with the NCNC Board. The expelled dog will be suspended from future NCNC events unless the owner submits a written reinstatement request for the dog, and that application is granted in writing by the NCNC board.

The NCNC has a policy of reciprocity with the AKC, the NCA, and all NCA regional clubs. Dogs who have misbehaved at events recognized by these organizations may also be suspended by the NCNC, and their owners may also apply for reinstatement. The NCNC does not take action on incidents of dog misbehavior at private gatherings.

Adopted 9/17/23 by NCNC BoD. Effective 10/1/23. Revised 10/15/23, 3/25/24.

NCNC Policy on Publicizing Non-NCNC Events

The NCNC shall, at its discretion, publicize events that are not run by the NCNC if they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. The event is not for profit by nature, unless it benefits a nonprofit or not for profit organization.
  2. The focus of the event must be on helping dogs and/or their owners, or supporting the Newfoundland Club of America, its affiliated regional clubs, or activities that support desired characteristics in the breed.
  3. These guidelines shall apply to NCNC promotions via website, paper, email, newsletter and social media.
Adopted 6/8/23 by NCNC BoD, revised 7/8/23 by NCNC BoD. Effective 6/9/23

NCNC Policy on Sharing our Membership List

The NCNC will not give our membership list to any unaffiliated third parties.

Adopted 7/8/23 by NCNC BoD. Effective 7/9/23
