Session #4: Building Blocks for Draft: Stays, Go Outs, and Driven Figure 8
Sunday 1:00-4:00pm
Who can participate?
This session is appropriate for all handlers and any dogs that are comfortable pulling a drafting apparatus, turning the apparatus, and working with the apparatus in a group with other dogs and handlers. You do not need to have any knowledge of draft test exercises in order to participate. You don’t need to master all of the information in this session in order to earn your DD or BDD, but you likely will find that the cross-training, so to speak, between levels is very useful. This session has a couple of human-only exercises, creating a nice opportunity for the dogs to rest.
Overview
We continue our presentation of the “Building Blocks for Draft,” showing you how to train and reinforce additional building blocks, as well as how to use them during a test. We focus on stays, go outs, and driven work, analyzing and practicing test maneuvers, including the weight exchange, drag away, removable object, and the driven figure 8.
We offer strategic tips for testing, showing you how to identify and avoid common pitfalls.
What to Bring
A six-foot non-retractable leash, lots of training treats and/or toys, drool towels, a water bowl, your harness, and your drafting apparatus. Most participants find it helpful to bring a notebook for writing down information they want to remember later.
Fee: $40 for NCNC members; $50 for non-members. Early registration for NCNC Members from Feb 1-Feb 3 and then registration will be open to Non-NCNC Members.
